Blog #14: Music Video
Here is an example of a music video you can review to help you get some ideas:
Here is the link to ZAMZAR - a website that allows you to download video from the Internet. Good for this project. Once the video is downloaded, you can put it into i-Movie and then edit the sections that you want. The downloaded video link will be sent to you in an email. It's pretty easy to use...just follow the instructions. Suggested format is .mov.

Blog #12: Your Three Words Project
This is a video uploaded. It was exported as a QUICKTIME MOVIE from iMovie.
Blog #11: Web 2.0 Tool
Web 2.0 Tool: STORYBIRD
Storybird
is a web 2.0 tool that allows you to create original illustrated books. You can
add your own text and select illustrations from several different artists. You have the option of sharing their
Storybird privately or publicly on the network. The final product can be
printed, watched on screen, or shared through a worldwide library.
Storybird
could be used in the classroom for the following:
· Create a children’s story on saving
money, budgeting, etc… (personal finance class)
· Use an original poem and create a
book with illustrations (english class)
· Create a book on a period of history
from a child’s perspective (social studies class)
· Create a book about the importance
of healthy eating and good fitness habits (health class)
To use Storybird, you need to create an
account. Once it is created, you browse through the various artists and select
a group of images for your book. Multiple artists can be used and you can
search by topics (for example, dogs; all artists with dog images would appear
to pick from).
As you
create each page, you select from the illustrations and add your own text.
Once you
are finished you can save and publish your book. You can make your book private
(only for viewing by those you select) or public (for all to see). You can also
order the book and have it printed and sent directly to you.

Blog #9: Word Clouds
I used Tagul.com for my first cloud. I went to www.ames.k12.ia.us and selected words from the website. I did this to follow the directions for the assignment. However, in Tagul, you can put in the URL for a website, filter the words (get rid of words like the, in, and, at, etc..) and create your cloud with a shape. I selected the square so it looked similar to some of the subway art that is now popular.
My second word cloud example is from tagxedo.com. This is a great website! You can use any of the provided shapes or upload your own shape and then use it to create your word cloud. Colors can be selected and the other thing you can do is invert the shape. I did not do that for this example. If I had, Herkey would have been white and the words would have appeared around the image. Definitely a very cool website!

Assignment #4: Copyright Cases
George Harrison was sued for allegedly using the copyright of a song recorded by the Chiffons in 1963. Their song was called "He's So Fine," and George Harrison's song was entitled "My Sweet Lord".
Both songs contained the same melody but different words.
Here is a sample of each one from You Tube:
The courts heard the case and George Harrison was found guilty of subconsciously using the Chiffons song in creating his own. The ruling stated:
"His subconscious knew it already had worked in a song his conscious did not remember... That is, under the law, infringement of copyright, and is no less so even though subconsciously accomplished."
While the 2 songs sound extremely familiar, it's really hard for me to believe that a performer such as George Harrison, who was so very much in the lime light with the Beatles, would risk such a copyright violation. Subconsciously, perhaps. It's a very hard call to make in my opinion.

Assignment #3: Image Editing Assignment
Image #1: city.jpeg - www.picnik.com

Taking the image city.jpeg provided, I went to www.picnik.com and applied the following:
basic edits:
exposure -20
shadows -50
Effects: Sepia
I liked the combination of these effects. Makes the city look sinister and scary to me.
Using the image rodeoboys.jpeg, I went to www.iPiccy.com and used the following features:
Editor:
Old Photo (just old)
Gritty (darker)
Emboss (strength=10)
I liked the combination of these effects. Made it look like this picture could have been from years ago.
Image #3: winterscene.jpeg - www.photoshop.com (photoexpress)
I went to www.photoshop.com and selected photoshop express. I completed the following changes to the photograph:
Exposure: darkened
Selected sketch
Added one of the frames
I love the way the image came out. Looks very calming and the frame really sets the image nicely.

Assignment #2: Image Assignment
Example #1: PhotoFunia
I used PhotoFunia for my first example. My image came from a photo I had taken while in Washington DC. This is called the Three Colours and I used this to show how an image can be used in a setting such as an art museum. I did not add any special effects to my images.
Example #2: Fun Photo Box
I used a second website call Fun Photo Box, which is very similar to Photofunia. I selected this layout because I liked the old-age look and the other objects in this image. My image came from photobooth on my computer.
Example #3: Yearbook Yourself
This image was developed using Yearbook Yourself. This website allows you to upload your image and put your face into a yearbook picture from any year you select. I selected 1992 for my sample. I picked this year because I thought the hair was outrageous! It is hard for me to imagine myself looking like this! I really enjoyed this website and will go back to play with it again I am sure!

Assignment #1: Three of my Favorite Websites
1. http://www.groupon.com/
This website I use for finding great deals for our family! I bought a yearly family membership for Reiman Gardens in Ames for 60% off! I've also used this site for gifts (massages, dinners, movies, etc.) for family and friends.
2. www.facebook.com
I am a facebook user! I use this to stay connected to friends and family. I also like to post pictures to share and play some games on facebook. Facebook is now also used as a professional venue for organizations like National Business Education Association and the Iowa Business Education Association.
3. http://www.go2web20.net/
I use this website ALOT to explore new web 2.0 tools for my multimedia class, computer apps class, and desktop publishing/web page design classes. I can usually find something new on there each time I go and explore!
