Assignment #2: Sound Effects

Assignment #2 in GarageBand will have you using ONLY the sound effects to create a story. As someone listens to your recording, they should be able to visualize what is happening by the sounds they are hearing. Your story must have a plot to it. In other words, it can not just be a series of random sounds. Each sound must have a purpose to the story.

Sound effects are found by selecting the loop browser and then podcast sounds view at the top of the loop browser.
I have created an example that we will listen to. As you listen, imagine what is happening!

When everyone is finished, we will listen to each recording and you will identify the storyline.

GARAGEBAND PROJECT #3
Creating a Podcast

For our final project in GarageBand, you will be creating your first podcast. This podcast will be an AUDIO podcast only. We will create video podcasts later in Audacity. This Garageband podcast may be 1 of the 3 types described below:

Option 1: A favorite poem or a poem written by you recorded with your voice and background music, sound effects, etc…

Option 2: A short book (maybe a children’s book) recorded with your voice by you with background music, sound effects, etc…)

Option 3: Lyrics to one of your favorite songs recorded with your voice and background music, sound effects, etc.

To create a new podcast project:

  1. Choice File—NEW
  2. In the Project Chooser, select New Project, then select the Podcast icon.
  3. Click Choose.
  4. When the SAVE AS dialog box appears, type a name for the project and browse to the location where you want to save it.
  5. Click Create.

Four tracks will appear: A Podcast track, a male voice track, a female voice track and a jingles track. Use the appropriate gender track to record your voice.

To record your voice:

  1. Click on the appropriate track (male or female).
  2. At the bottom of your screen, select the record button.
  3. Begin recording your voice.
  4. When you are finished, press the PLAY button to stop recording.
  5. Go back to the beginning of your recorded voice and listen to see if you need to make any changes.
  6. You can cut a recording by selecting the bottom right corner of a track and dragging back to the left.
  7. You may find that you will have more than 1 segment on your voice track. This could happen if you need to re-record parts of the poem or story you are reading.

To add jingles, stingers, and sound effects:

  1. Click the Loop Browser button (with the “eye”) in the control bar to open the loop browser.
  2. Click the Podcast sounds view button (the rightmost button) in the upper-left part of the loop browser.
